PRIVACY POLICY FOR LEARN LEAGUE

Learn League is an educational platform focused on highly engaged middle school learning.

Our commitment to your privacy

Learn League (“we,” “us,” “our,” or “Learn League”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it through compliance with this policy.

Scope of this privacy policy

This Privacy Policy covers Learn League’s treatment of personally identifiable information (“Personal Information”) that you provide and that we may gather when you access Learn League software and use services.

However, this policy does not apply to the practices or information collected by companies that Learn League does not own or control (including any third-party products or services used for logging into Learn League or that are integrated with Learn League), or to individuals that are not employed or managed by Learn League.

Should Learn League link to other sites the company is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other sites. Users should ensure when linking to another site that they read the privacy policy stated on that site.

Changes to the privacy policy and notifying users

Learn League may make changes to this Privacy Policy from time to time. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. If we make changes in the way we use Personal Information and Personal Information we collect, we will notify you by posting an announcement on Learn League or sending you an email. Users are bound by any changes to the Privacy Policy when he or she uses Learn League after such changes have been first posted.

1. Do we collect information from you to use or register on our site?

In order to access the Learn League platform and services users are required to register for either Student / Child or Parent accounts.

The information we gather from users allows our users:

– To access the site and services

– To set up a user account and student profiles that can be used to personalize their experience on         Learn League and interact with other users through the site

– To notify/obtain consent from parents; to give them access to parental controls

– Password reset purposes

– To set up billing information for subscription service and other paid for services

In connection with Learn League, we request and display some personal information to other users and visitors of Learn League, which allows users to identify one another. We collect the following types of information from our users:

For student / child accounts

Learn League will not collect from a student / child more personal information than is reasonably necessary to provide the student / child access to the Learn League platform and services.

First and Last Name – We require students / children to provide us with their first and last names so as to be able to identify them to their parent or guardian’s for the purposes of obtaining verifiable adult consent.  

Nickname – Students / children are required to use the Learn League nickname generator to create a nickname to identify them on the service but do not allow users to create their own nicknames or use their real name.

Password – We ask students / children to provide a password and to confirm said password.

Birthday – In order to determine whether students / children will require adult consent, students / children are required to confirm their birth dates.

Parent Details (Name and Email) –  During the account creation process, we require a student / child who is under 13 years of age to enter a parental email address for purposes of obtaining verifiable adult consent.

Avatar – We allow the student / child to personalize an abstract “avatar” which will represent them on the service;

Once the student’s / child’s account is created, we send an email to the provided parental email address prompting the parent to create a parental account on our service, which is linked to the student’s /child’s account.

Should we not receive a response from a parent following creation of a child account within a reasonable time, we delete the parental email address and the child account from our database . Once a parent has completed the parental account registration process, every subsequent child account under 13 years old created with that adult email address will be automatically verified and connected.

Learn League allows for either students / children on parents to initiate the enrollment into the Learn League service.

During the student / child initiated, parental account registration process, we receive and store the following information, in addition to the child / student information:

– full name of the parent,

– parent’s email address,

– password for the parental account, as well as any other information necessary for us to provide our services.

During the parent initiated, account registration process, in addition to the parent specific information, they will also be required to provide the information required and collected for student / child accounts. The student / child, will be required to select their own Nick Name upon logging on to the platform for the first time, using the specific signup link displayed on the parent dashboard. The unique link will be generated and displayed following the completion of the parent signup process.

As part of the parent verification purposes, a credit card will be required but the company shall not store that information on our servers. In addition, if a parent elects to subscribe to any paid features of our service, we may collect additional billing information such as a mailing address.

Credit Card verification services are provided by Stripe. Technical details of Stripe’s secure infrastructure can be found here.

The information provided to Learn League is used for such purposes as obtaining parental consent as set forth above, providing parents with notice of our privacy practices, answering questions, improving the content of the Learn League , responding to your requests for certain information, products and services, attribution for content you submit, customizing the advertising and content you see, allowing you to communicate with other users, and communicating with you about Learn League’s products and services, including specials and new features.

2. What types of community or social features do we offer you on our site and how do we keep these areas safe?

The Learn League service allows for limited interaction with other users. Users will never be identified by Learn League by name, age or location other than country.

Users will be identified by unique nicknames and abstract avatars.

Community or social features will be limited to :[describe what features exist, if any] – Examples:

– Teams

– User activity news feeds

– Profiles that are only visible to teammates may include user-generated-content for Digital Academic portfolios such as photos, videos, artwork and written text.

Teams can either be established, joined or invited to. Invitations can only be sent using nicknames and users under the age of 13 will be notified of pending invitations but will require their parents to accept the invite from within the parent dashboard.

User activity feeds will display badges earned, map challenge profess and Learn League causes supported.

Digital Academic Portfolio submissions require 10 Learn League points per post and posts will be reviewed for suitability, and to ensure that personal information is not present, by either Learn League, school staff, when accessed via a school license, or by parents.

3. Do we offer other features on our site that ask you to provide information?

Learn League at times may offer additional features or services for either student / children or parents such as:

– “Tell-a-friend or parent” options, that will require a child or parent to enter another child’s parent email address

– Child or parent Newsletter sign-up forms, that will require either a parent opt in or email address

– Customer support requests using either a parent email address or child nickname

– Periodic entries for contests and sweepstakes using either parent email address or child nickname

– Membership purchases made solely via the parent dashboard

 

4. Do we collect information from you using cookies or other web technologies?

Learn League and its services may receive and store certain types of information whenever users interact with our Website or use our services. Learn League automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, cookie information, browser information, operating system, time stamps, the pages you request, and the actions and path you take on Learn League.

Generally, our service automatically collects usage information, such as the numbers and frequency of visitors to our Website and how they use its various components. Learn League only uses this data in aggregate form, that is, as a statistical measure, and not in a manner that would identify you personally. This type of aggregate data enables us to figure out how users use parts of Learn League or services so that we can make Learn League appealing to as many users as possible, and improve those services. As part of this use of information, we may provide aggregate information to our partners about how our users, collectively, use our Website or services. We share this type of statistical data so that our partners also understand how people use Learn League or services, so that they, too, may provide you with an optimal online experience. Again, Learn League never discloses aggregate information to a partner in a manner that would identify you personally.

5. Do we have e-commerce or advertisements on our site?

Learn League does not offer items for sale on the site to student / child accounts but offers membership services to parent accounts such as Parent Reporting, Tutoring other educational or Learn League related services.

Learn League does not contain third party ads.

6. With whom do we share your information?

Learn League will never share personal information with independent third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Certain information, including personal information such as email address and credit card information may be shared with third party vendors who perform services on your behalf such as for payment processing, promotion fulfillment and email marketing.

However, such vendors are prohibited from using the information shared for their own purposes.

With respect to a student’s / child’s Personal Information:

– Learn League will not contact children under the age of 13 about special offers or for marketing purposes without parental consent.

– Learn League will not send Personal Information about a student / child to other companies or people, except when: we have a parent’s consent to share the information or we are required to do so to comply with the law, including for example, to comply with a court order or subpoena; to enforce our Terms of Service, or site rules; or to protect the safety and security of our users and site. 

– If Learn League, or substantially all of its assets were acquired, or in the unlikely event that Learn League goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information would be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. As set forth below, you acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any acquirer of Learn League may continue to use your Personal Information as set forth in this policy.

7. How do we keep your information secure?

Learn League uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) firewall-protected servers when collecting personal information (technical details of AWS Firewall services can be found here).

Credit Card verification services are provided by Stripe (technical details of Stripe’s secure infrastructure can be found here).

Access to servers and services at both AWS and Stripe is limited to senior management.

Your Learn League account Personal Information is protected by a password for your privacy and security. You need to ensure that there is no unauthorized access to your account and Personal Information by selecting and protecting your password appropriately and limiting access to your computer (or other device) and browser by signing off after you have finished accessing your account. Learn League endeavors to protect user information to ensure that user account information is kept private, however, Learn League cannot guarantee the security of user account information. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of user information at any time.

Learn League contains links to other sites. Learn League is not responsible for the privacy policies and/or practices on other sites. When linking to another site you should read the privacy policy stated on that site. This Privacy Policy only governs information collected on Learn League.

Please be aware that whenever you voluntarily post information to public areas on Website or any other public forums, such information can be accessed by the public.

8. What types of parental controls do we offer parents?

Parents are able to:

– Deactivate child’s account

– Access and manage child’s account data

– View “personal information” associated with child’s account  

– Delete “personal information” associated with child’s account 

– Discontinue further collection or use of the child’s personal information 

– Pre-approval of team invites
